I’ll jealously guard the integrity of the judiciary – New Chief Justice
Chief Justice Anin Yeboah has pledged to uphold the integrity of the judiciary in Ghana after his induction into office.
In a speech after taking the Oath of Allegiance, the Judicial Oath and the Oath of Secrecy, Chief Justice Anin Yeboah said he has taken note of the challenges bedevilling effective justice delivery. in the country.
Addressing the gathering at the Jubilee House on Tuesday during his investiture, he recalled some of the concerns raised when he appeared before parliament for the vetting process.
The key issues raised were: the integrity of the judiciary and the continuous perception of corruption, delays in the justice delivery system, poor infrastructure of courts and residences of judicial officers, inadequate resources for the running of the judiciary and justice delivery system, and challenges surrounding legal education in Ghana.
To this end, he pledged “to jealously guard the integrity of the judiciary as my predecessors in office have done and will take all the necessary steps to ensure that during my term of office, solutions are found to these issues of concern”.
He believes financial resources are key for improved and efficient justice delivery and requested assistance from President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Profile of Chief Justice Anin Yeboah
Chief Justice Anin Yeboah was born in Toase in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
He attended Amaniampong Secondary School and Apam Secondary School and then moved to the University of Ghana and the Ghana School of Law where he graduated in 1981.
He served as an Assistant State Attorney at the Attorney General’s Office at Koforidua and later proceeded to work as a partner at Afisem Chambers.
Subsequently, he was elected as the Eastern Regional Bar President. He served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal from 2003-2008 and the High Court from 2002-2003 in Ghana
He was Chairman of the Appeal Committee at the Ghana Football Association from 2004 to 2008. He rose to become a member of the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA and he was appointed as Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee in May 2017 at the 67th FIFA Congress in Bahrain. He also held the position of Chairman of the FIFA Ethics Committee
Justice Justice Anin Yeboah was appointed to the Supreme Court of Ghana by President John Kufuor in June 2008.
He is a part-time lecturer at the Ghana School of Law where he teaches Civil Procedure and Ghana Legal System.
He is currently the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of The General Legal Council of Ghana.
