I’ll fight to the hilt – Palmer

Disqualified Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential hopeful, Mr Wilfred Kweku Osei, has given an indication that he will appeal the decision to disqualify him from contesting the topmost position in Ghana football.

Yesterday, the GFA Normalisation Committee, upon receiving the final report of the Frank Davis-led body that vetted the seven aspirants and others contesting for the Executive Council seats, announced the disqualification of the Tema Youth owner on the grounds of what it described as a breach of article 33 (5) (c) of the GFA General Regulations, as well as a decision by the FA’s Ethics Committee, dated December 13, 2017.

The FA statement, signed by Naa Odofoley Nortey, a member of the GFA Normalisation Committee, said Mr Osei could exercise his right to appeal against the decision by next Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

The latest twist in the FA race left six candidates — Amanda Clinton, George Ankoma Mensah, Nana Yaw Amponsah, Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, George Afriyie and Frederick Pappoe — who were cleared to contest the vacant position of FA president.

Unhappy with the verdict, Mr Osei, known in football circles as Palmer, confirmed that he would contest the decision to reject his application because he was innocent of the charge.

“I shall, in the coming days, file an appeal concerning the decision. To the best of my knowledge, I, Wilfred Kwaku Osei, did not commit any of the infractions stated above,” he said in a statement yesterday.

This latest decision will come as a major blow to the football administrator who was among the leading contenders for the top position.
Apart from the Tema Youth president, the vetting committee disqualified two contestants for Regional FA (RFA) chairmanship positions. The applications of Alhaji Fuseini Mahama, who was contesting for the Western Region RFA chairman position, and Mr Roy Arthur — who was also contesting the Central Region RFA top post — were rejected by the committee.
