I’ll ensure fiscal discipline and value for money – Kwabena Agyepong

Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has outlined a comprehensive plan for governance, promising fiscal responsibility and efficient use of public funds if elected as president of Ghana.

Speaking on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Silicon House in Accra, Agyepong shared his “New Dawn Agenda,” which he described as a roadmap to reverse policies that have, in his view, demoralised citizens over the years.

Central to his vision, he said, is careful financial management.

“I’ll ensure fiscal discipline and value for money,” Agyepong told party supporters and the nation, pledging that his administration would prioritise completing existing projects before starting new ones, curb wasteful spending, and institutionalise a culture of maintenance across government agencies.

Beyond financial accountability, Agyepong outlined six key pillars for his proposed administration:

  1. Land Reforms, Youth Empowerment, and Modernised Agriculture – Streamlining land title registration, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, linking youth-led environmental initiatives with land reclamation, and promoting climate-smart farming as a dignified profession.

  2. Urban Regeneration, Rural Renewal, and Environmental Protection – Enforcing spatial planning, transforming chaotic urban areas, and equipping rural communities with essential amenities.

  3. Fiscal Discipline and Value for Money – Completing existing projects, limiting waste, and ensuring sustainable management of public resources.

  4. Restoring Meritocracy and Professionalism in Public Service – Basing appointments and promotions on performance, capping the cabinet at 19 ministers and 19 deputies, limiting Supreme Court judges to 11, and abolishing mandatory retirement at 70.

  5. National Trade Licence Regime – Formalising the informal sector through incentives rather than punitive measures.

  6. Empowering Creative Arts and Reigniting Sports – Enforcing copyright protections, and supporting soccer, athletics, boxing, and other sports to restore national pride.

Agyepong said the pillars are rooted in his experience and aim to restore confidence, discipline, and fairness in governance, while creating opportunities for all Ghanaians to thrive.
