Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has appealed for peace in Bawku, asking for forgiveness from the traditional leadership and residents over the conduct of some police officers in the area.

During a visit to the Bawku Naba and community leaders on Friday, April 11, the IGP openly acknowledged mistakes made by security personnel and called for renewed cooperation between the police and residents.

He also addressed youth concerns raised through protest placards, urging restraint and promising that their voices were being heard.

“We are the people to work with you… one or two people will commit some mistakes. Let’s correct them together so we can move forward in peace.

“We appeal to the overlord to speak to the youth. The burning of houses and police posts must stop,” COP Yohuno said.

The IGP also expressed concern over the growing fear among officers on duty in Bawku and reaffirmed the police and military’s commitment to restoring calm.

In a bid to strengthen trust, he announced plans to prioritise Bawku youth in future police recruitment.

“A special team will come for recruitment. We value your strength and dedication,” he added.

He further encouraged residents to report any misconduct by officers, pledging swift corrective action.

Ending on a personal note, COP Yohuno said he hoped to sleep in peace without hearing gunfire.

“If I don’t hear any gunshots for three days, then I’ll know you’ve received my message,” he said.
