The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has described the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the King Solomon of our time, in recognition of his widely acknowledged role in peacebuilding, mediation and national development.

He made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the Asantehene to the Police Headquarters in Accra on January 6, 2026, a meeting that highlighted the growing collaboration between traditional authority and state security institutions.

Addressing the gathering, the IGP spoke warmly about the Asantehene’s long-standing commitment to resolving conflicts and restoring calm in areas once plagued by tension.

He noted that Otumfuo’s wisdom and moral authority have often brought together opposing sides, creating space for dialogue and lasting solutions.

One of the most notable examples cited was the resolution of the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis, achieved through the work of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs under Otumfuo’s leadership.

The IGP also referenced the monarch’s involvement in mediation efforts in Yendi and Bawku, saying the outcomes continue to support policing and improve community cooperation in those areas.

According to Mr Yohuno, the relative calm currently experienced in parts of Bawku has helped security agencies operate more effectively and rebuild trust with residents.

He added that chiefs remain vital partners in maintaining law and order, particularly in matters relating to land and chieftaincy disputes.

Beyond security, the IGP acknowledged Otumfuo’s contribution to education and social development, especially through initiatives that have given thousands of young people access to schooling.

“Your wisdom, patience and moral authority have brought calm where tensions once prevailed and unity where divisions once threatened our peace,” he said.
