IGP meets EC, flagbearer reps and NPP election committee members ahead of Nov. 4 presidential primaries
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has engaged representatives from the Electoral Commission, presidential aspirants, and election committee members of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) ahead of the November 4 presidential primaries.
At the stakeholders meeting, the party people assured that they would cooperate with official security to ensure a peaceful election during the presidential primaries.
“We want to assure you that on the 4th of November, we are going to give you an overdose of security. It will be awesome, and all we want from you all is that, let us play our roles. The police will ensure they play their role, the EC will do their work, and all the people who have to vote across the country will come out boldly to vote. All the agents should ensure they work for the objective of the election to be achieved. We know it will be very successful,” Dr Dampare stated while addressing the representatives.
The Deputy Chairperson at the Electoral Commission, Mr Samuel Tetteh also noted that the upcoming presidential primaries are very important to the EC; therefore, the EC has put in place effective measures to ensure a peaceful election.
“The conduct of the election solely rests with the Electoral Commission, and therefore there should be a series of engagements, and this meeting is one of them. We need to prepare adequately to ensure that the election is successfully conducted”.
“We have issues like recruitment of officials for elections, issues like printing of ballots, and issues related to agents who will be represented in all the polling stations. We are looking forward to the final selection of a presidential candidate on November 4. We are doing all we can to have a successful election. We know the police are doing well, and we plead with all stakeholders to join the EC to have a successful election come November 4th”, he added.
The chairman of the NPP election committee and former speaker of parliament, Aaron Mike Oquaye, also added that the team has put in place all the necessary requirements and is ready for the November 4 presidential primaries.
Moreover, the committee tasked the police with taking full charge of security-related issues at all the polling stations to ensure a peaceful election of a flagbearer for the party.
The four flagbearer aspirants participating in the presidential primaries are Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimo.
