The Majority in Parliament has urged the public to ignore reports suggesting an imminent shakeup in its leadership in Parliament.

The First Deputy Speaker and Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Joseph Osei Owusu, dismissed the reports, at a press briefing on Tuesday, February 20.

“We invited you here this morning because of some publications suggesting some major changes in the majority leadership in Parliament. We are here to inform you that the publications that are going around are untrue. It is false.

“The majority caucus has not made any changes in its leadership. The majority caucus has not contemplated making any changes to its leadership and we want to tell you to ignore any such publication.

“We are aware that upon the nomination of one of the deputy whips as a minister, a replacement would have to be made. That replacement would be made by the caucus,” he stressed.

He emphasized the caucus’s confidence in its current leadership, affirming that the status quo would be maintained.

Mr Osei Owusu reiterated that any decisions regarding leadership changes rest solely with the caucus itself.

The response comes in light of reports in the media suggesting a potential succession of the current Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Deputy Majority Leader.
