Ibrahim Mahama demands GHc 5million from Wontumi in defamation suit
Businessman, Ibrahim Mahama, has dragged the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to court over defamation.
The founder of Engineers and Planners is seeking compensation of GH₵ 5million in damages over comments made by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who is popularly known as Chairman Wuntomi.
Also named in the suit was Mr Kenneth Mensah, owner of www.dailymailgh.com, the news platform Mr Wuntomi’s comment was published.
Describing the allegations as “malicious” and “untrue”, Mr Mahama stated in the suit filed at the High Court filed on July 13, that the politician had also accused him of benefitting from stole money.
Mr Mahama indicated that he suffered severe damage to character and reputation by being portrayed as a person whose source of wealth is through dubious means such as stealing.
Mr Mahama is, therefore, seeking a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants and their assigns from further publishing the “derogatory and defamatory” statements.
Additionally, he wants an order directing the defendants to publish a retraction in the Daily Graphic and the platforms used for circulating Mr Wuntomi’s comments within seven days of judgement.
