IBA World Youth Champs: Ministry’s support for TEAM GHANA in Montenegro is woefully inadequate – Dauda Fuseini

Ghana Boxing Federation Vice President Dauda Fuseini says the Ministry’s lack of support for Team Ghana’s participation at the IBA World Youth Championship in Montenegro is unspeakable.

The Black Rockets Ghana’s national youth boxing team, made their debut in the competition but have recorded some mixed results against their opponents in various categories at the ongoing championships.

Nonetheless, Fuseini views this as a valuable learning experience for the young boxers as the Federation works to prepare them for the Black Bombers team.

Told you the last time in our conversation, we wrote to the Ministry, I have a copy of the letter which was received by the Secretariat from the Ministry.

And then we also wrote to the President, we sent letters for both the Vice and then the President itself.

We received a response from the Office of the President, asking us to redirect our plea to the Sports Ministry, which we did, we made follow -up, we went there, you know, back and forth, back and forth.

Most of the times when we go, we don’t see the Minister, he’ll tell us, the Minister is out, he has traveled, he’s gone, this, he’s gone, that.

So in fact, we have done our best.

We’ve made a lot of follow -ups, you know, chasing them here and there, just to make sure this thing happens.

But at the end of the day, nothing comes out of it.

Because a boxer knows that his is to train hard to go and fight, you understand?

So if a boxer trains so hard and get to a point that he himself thinks that maybe the trip will come on, it will not come on, it will come on.

I mean, the mind will just be divided, you understand.

That focus, the initial focus in the mind will be divided and have a divided attention. So I think it played a serious role in, you know, affecting their performance.

The IBA Youth World International Boxing Tournament is from October 20 to November 3, 2024.

Ghana is represented by six boxers: Francis Quartey, Desmond Pappoe, Levy Ankrah, Ebenezer Ankrah, Mathias Ashitey, and George Dowouna.
