I wouldn’t subscribe to current forms of beefs – Obrafuor

Rapper Obrafuor has condemned the nature of beefs dominating the music industry lately.

According to the ‘Rap Sɔfoɔ’, although beefing is good for the industry especially for rap, the beefs lately are just nasty and he would not subscribe to it.

Speaking on Showbiz A-Z Saturday, he explained that artistes back in the days picked lines from their rival’s songs and punch holes in them.

“Reggie Rockstone in one of his songs says he was born with a microphone in his hands…the jab comes as no one is born with a microphone in their hands. it was just beautiful,” he added.

However, the rapper frowned on attacks on families of some artistes from their rivals.

“These are people who have nothing to do with the music, it is just sad,” he added.

Obrafuor explained that beefs during his era helped boost their record sales but they, the artistes, never had any bad blood between them.

“At that time Lord Kenya and I realised that it was boosting our sales but whenever he comes to Accra I would go and visit him at his hotel…our beefs were just for the crowd,” he disclosed.

The rap legend is not the only one who feels beefs are nasty in recent times and wants to distance themselves from it.

Even though he is not alien to rivalry, M.anifest in a recent interview on Joy FM, urged his fans not to praise him by attacking other people.

The ‘Feels’ hitmaker explained attacking lives of other artistes when praising him belittle’s other people’s hard work for the industry.

According to him, people should appreciate the diverse talents he and other artistes’ have to offer.

“We like pitching people against each other, instead of taking the best we all have to offer. Nobody is going to be the same,” he told Daniel Dadzie, host of the Super Morning Show.

Although they met recently to resolve their issues, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale had their beefs going on for so long it diverted from being lyrically good to attacks on persons, their fans and families.

Shatta Wale and his fans troll Stonebwoy for having a deformity and the Bhim Natives return the troll by mocking the former‘s mouth.

Shatta Wale had also once accused Stonebwoy of killing his (Stonebwoy) mother.

The rivalry got so sour it extended to the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, where the two camps were engaged in a brawl that later got them suspended from the scheme and stripped of all awards.
