President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he would step down willingly after the December 7 polls.

He said this on August 5, during a Senior Citizens’ luncheon at the Jubilee House to mark Founders’ Day.

According to the president, he wants to live up to the legacies of some past presidents who served two terms.

“I will willingly step down as president on 7th January. And I do so because I will be in good company with that of Jerry John Rawlings, and Agyekum Kufuor who in the fourth have been privileged by the people of Ghana to serve two terms as president of the republic,” he said.

While admitting some challenges during his tenure, President Akufo-Addo added that it had been an honour to serve the people of Ghana for two terms.

He further promised to ensure a peaceful election on December 7, 2024.

He explained that this was a commitment that with the help of all Ghanaians, he intended to realise because the people of Ghana deserve no less than to be given the best atmosphere in which to choose freely their next president and members of parliament.

“The last major challenge for me is to preside over peaceful and fair elections in December, and that is a commitment. I intend to ensure that our reputation as the beacon of democracy and stability in Africa and the world is maintained,” he assured.
