High Court Judge Justice Marie Louise Simmons has served notice of discharging former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwasi Nyantakyi if the state fails to open its corruption case against the latter.
On June 21, 2023, the court decided to put the prosecution of Nyantakyi on hold.
This was after Assistant State Attorney Derrick Ackah-Nyamike had told the court that the state could not call its first witness, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
It will be recalled that Anas, in May 2023, was ordered by the High Court to appear without his mask to testify.
Kwasi Nyantakyi is facing charges of fraud and corruption.
These charges stem from offences captured in the Number 12 documentary exposé by investigative journalist Anas in 2018. The documentary showed Nyantakyi collecting cash and gifts and engaging in influence-peddling.
The High Court in Accra had previously granted an application by the state for Anas to testify in chambers.
Lawyers for Mr Nyantakyi, represented by Baffuor Gyawu Bonsu Ashia, have noted that the trial case shrouded in secrecy makes preparations very difficult.
The case has been adjourned to July 25, 2023.
