I was celibate in my marriage before divorce – Kaffy
Nigerian choreographer, Kafayat Oluwatoyin, also known as Kaffy, has revealed that she remained celibate for three years before her 10-year-old marriage ended.
The 41-year-old dancer ended her decade-old marriage with Joseph Ameh, a former drummer in musical duo P-Square’s band after he allegedly cheated with her best friend.
According to her, she started healing from the betrayal when she decided to stop having intimacy with her husband.
“Let me tell you, when I started healing; I stopped sleeping with my husband. I was celibate in my marriage for three years before getting a divorce,” she said.
Reminiscing on her marital journey, the dancer said she ignored a lot of red flags because she was cultural and mentally made to believe that being and staying married was the ultimate.
“There are different red flags that we women in love are blinded by, “I was thinking at the beginning that I have found someone else that would make me happy. That’s the most selfish thinking that any human being can have for another human being,” she noted.
The two got married on 2 June 2012 and were blessed with two children.
Recounting her childhood, the dancer said she came from a family where domestic violence was the order of the day as her parents were in the habit of attacking each other with knives.
She is a choreographer, dance instructor, fitness coach, and the founder of Imagneto Dance Company.
In 2006, Kaffy led her dance group to break the Guinness Book of Records for “Longest Dance Party” after dancing for 55 hours and 40 minutes.
