‘I struggled to stop Mohammed Kudus’ – Man City defender Josko Gvardiol

Manchester City center-back, Josko Gvardiol, has revealed that Mohammed Kudus was the opponent he struggled the most to stop last season.

The Ghanaian attacking midfielder faced the Premier League champions twice last season and scored a spectacular overhead kick to make it 2-1 before City eventually won the final game of the season 3-1 to lift the title.

When asked on the Man City Podcast which opponent was the most difficult to stop last season, the Croatian said, “I would say Kudus from West Ham.

“I remember the first game, he was on the bench, so he came in for the last 15-20 minutes, and he was playing on my side.

“I already thought, ‘Ah, he’s quite good. He looks sharp and he’s good on the ball.’

“I remember the second game at the end of the season, he even scored a bicycle kick. He was the one I struggled the most to play against.

“I think he’s the one who deserves more attention, and I believe this season he’s going to come out and show his quality.”

Mohammed Kudus, 24, waited over two months to start his first Premier League match against Everton in October 2024.

Many called for him to start games due to his cameo performances, but David Moyes eased him into action.

By the end of the season, Kudus had scored 14 goals, including some dazzling strikes, and provided six assists across all competitions.

This season, he has featured in four games and provided one assist before joining the Black Stars for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
