I saved GH¢750,000 by age 14 – Shatta Wale
Dancehall sensation Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known in showbiz as Shatta Wale, has whipped up savings culture among Ghanaians, claiming he had accumulated an astonishing GH¢750,000 by the age of 14.
Few Ghanaians are familiar with his childhood but the ‘On God’ hitmaker has revealed that his father was a wealthy man who provided for all his needs.
Recounting fond memories, Shatta Wale said it was common for his father to gift him substantive amounts of foreign currencies.
“I strolled into Prudential Bank and told them I was 18. My dad would give me pounds and dollars for my upkeep. So by 14, I had seven hundred and fifty thousand cedis!”
He noted that he hardly had to spend any of his pocket money because his father ensured he lacked nothing.
“I was living the good life; I didn’t need to buy anything since he bought all my clothes. One time, I even drove to the bank when my dad was out, and the bank manager knew I wasn’t actually 18,” he laughed.
According to him, he lost track of that substantial amount during a challenging period in his life.
“When I hit a rough patch, I completely forgot about the money I had saved at Prudential Bank,” he explained. “It wasn’t until after my Bandana days that it crossed my mind. When I finally went to the bank, they told me my name wasn’t in the system. So I couldn’t access it.”
Shatta Wale disclosed this in an engaging interview on the ‘Rants, Bants, and Confession’ podcast, released on October 31, 2024,
