“I have sworn to take certain secrets to my grave” – Muntaka
The Interior Minister-designate, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has vowed not to disclose sensitive information even under threat in the line of duty.
Alhaji Muntaka swore this oath after he was asked by the Minority Leader and Ranking Member of the Appointments Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin if he was ready to take some dirt to his grave even if he was innocent.
In response, the former Minority Chief Whip cited the case of the election of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, where he knew the number of New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislators who voted for Bagbin but never revealed the secret to any legislator in the Chamber.
He added that the Interior Minister-designate position is a security area; therefore, he will not spill any secret that can lead to disorder in the country.
“You know how we elected the Speaker of Parliament, Minority Leader?” he quizzed.
“If you ask which of your guys supported us, no one knows. Not even the security guys or you. You don’t know.
“You can only guess, but you can’t say you know,” he reiterated.
“I work with people, and I have vowed and told them that not even my wife will know this. I will die with it, and I meant it.”
“I’m telling you that I’m going to an area that is a security zone—an area where you talk less but do more. I can assure you that. Minority Leader, as we have been in this House, you can attest to the fact that there have been a lot of things between us that nobody knows about.
“No third person has ever known, and I can assure you that no third person will ever know because you can trust me that when I say I am doing this on my honour, then I am doing this on my honour,” he stated.
