‘I Forget About My Problems And Deliver Beyond Audience Expectation When On Stage’- Samini
Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste, Emmanuel Andrews Sammini professionally known as Samini says he is able to perform beyond the expectation of his audience even when he is battling with challenges in life.
He explains that, although most people are often distracted on stage due to challenges they are confronted with, he has a creative mindset that helps him to overcome every challenge.
“I have a creative box and nothing negative goes in there. So when it is time to prepare for an appearance or studio recording, and I am in that box, whatever is coming has its barriers. You can’t get to me until I complete”.
“Naturally, if I am going through a regular day-to-day activity and stress, the moment the microphone is given to me, and I hear the band play, it is a different energy,” he noted in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report with Joy.
He added that everybody that plays a role in performance have their personal issues but once they mount the stage, they let go of all the negative energy and get into an elated mood.
Asked if he gets worried about the likelihood of repeating his performances on different shows, he said he usually would want to add some dynamics to his performances so he doesn’t sound monotonous.
“Sometimes as an artiste, you yearn for some change, something new, something spectacular. So that whoever has been to maybe one or two of your performances get a wow factor,” he noted.
He added that with or without an audience, he always makes sure his stagecraft is top-notch.
“It is not really about how many people are in there or how charged they are. It’s about how I can get them to feel before they leave the auditorium,” he noted.
He further explained that sometimes an artiste goes to places where nobody knows them, when they are called to mount the stage, they don’t get the regular huge chant they usually get in their comfort zones but the artiste still needs to deliver.
Samini is known for songs like My Own, Di wo line mu, Odo, Where my baby dey, Forever, Obaa, Linda, and Obra.
