I Feel Vindicated – Domelevo Reacts To Supreme Court Ruling On His Leave
Former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo has expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court ruling that declared as unconstitutional a directive from the presidency that compelled him to proceed on leave.
The Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday, May 31, adding that the president’s appointment of an acting Auditor-General while a substantive Auditor-General was in office was equally unconstitutional.
President Nana Akufo-Addo had instructed Mr Domelevo to proceed on 169 working days of accumulated leave in July 2020.
Reacting to the ruling, Mr Domelevo said he was happy about the verdict, adding that he has been vindicated of all the wrong perceptions some Ghanaians had about him.
“The battle is for the Lord. The most important thing is that the Supreme Court has spoken, and I’m happy they have done that. Many Ghanaians thought that there was something untoward that I had done, which the president said I should go on leave,” he said.
Mr Domelevo added that he would not press any charges against the presidency where the taxpayer’s money will be used to compensate him.
“Now that I feel vindicated, I don’t think I need any redress beyond that. I think that the ruling was a very good one,” he added.
Addressing the president, he said, “I don’t have anything to say to him except to tell him that being a human rights lawyer, he should try to respect the laws of the country.”
