Head coach of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team (the Black Stars), Otto Addo, has said that he didn’t see the Black Stars captain armband left on the grass amid confusion over which player was to wear it in the face of a series of substitutions in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.

He said this at the post-game presser after Ghana bagged a 5-0 win over Chad to move to the top of Group I’s standings with 12 points from five games.

Ghana dominated the game and had very little trouble sweeping Chad aside but in the second half, a controversial incident took place as there was confusion over which player should take over as captain Jordan Ayew got substituted.

In the lead up to the game, a lot of talk over Jordan Ayew’s ascension to the captain role at the expense of Thomas Partey and “interim captain” Mohammed Kudus was rife and Otto Addo dismissed the notion that there was further confusion over the role stating,

“I didn’t see the [captain arm] band lying on the grass so after Jordan left, somebody took it, after Thomas left, somebody took it so everything is clear.”
