I did not pay attention to dev’t in Ekumfi because you unseated Ato Cudjoe – Akufo-Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo has blamed the lack of development in the Ekumfi area on the failure to re-elect Francis Ato Cudjoe in the 2020 elections.
The president, in an interaction with traditional leaders from Ekumfi at the Jubilee House, expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision made by the people of Ekumfi to vote out Ato Cudjoe from the Parliament of Ghana.
He lamented that, despite making “him [Ato Cudjoe] a deputy minister,” the constituents still voted him out, giving power to Abeiku Crentsil, a candidate for the National Democratic Congress(NDC).
“Ato Cudjoe was your MP and I made him a Deputy Minister and you voted him out in the last elections and because of that, I did not pay attention to development in your area, I have to be honest with you but since you have brought it up I will pay attention to it,” he noted.
The traditional leaders visited the Jubilee House to request the president’s assistance in improving the living standards of their people.
However, President Akufo-Addo assured them that, despite his disappointment, he would do his best to develop the area.
Historically, the Central Region and the Volta Region are considered to be the National Democratic Congress(NDC) strongholds.
It will be recalled that on Monday, October 16, President Akufo-Addo made a controversial statement when he paid a visit to some victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage at Mepe in the Volta Region.
The President claimed that the people of the Volta Region didn’t vote for him to become president but since he is a president for all citizens, there is a need for him to commiserate with them.
“When these things happen and government acts, politics does not come into the matter at all. When I took the Oath of Office as President, I took the oath as president for every single individual in Ghana, all people in Ghana, all districts and whether they voted for me or not, once I have taken the oath, I am the President of all the people so Togbe, I want the people here, beginning with you, and the elders to understand that when something like this happens and Government acts, Government is acting for Ghanaians, all Ghanaians.
“I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and are suffering, and it is my responsibility to try and help. Because, if it is a question of counting who votes for me and who doesn’t vote for me, then I shouldn’t be here, because you don’t vote for me. But that is not my concern. And, in any event, one day you will vote for me and my party.
“So Togbe, I came here this afternoon to express my sympathy with all the people of Mepe and the areas affected,” he stressed.
