Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has clarified reports surrounding the raid on the residence of Dr. Ernest Addison, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, stating that only a hard drive containing CCTV footage was taken.

This clarification comes amid growing public concern and criticism following the March 19 operation by heavily armed National Security operatives at Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge residence.

The raid, which involved disabling surveillance systems and searching the property, has sparked debate over due process and the motives behind the action.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, March 24, Dr. Ayine addressed the controversy:
“Let me be clear—no CCTV cameras were taken. It was the hard drive, which stores the footage, that was retrieved. Every investigator knows that the hard drive is the memory—the brain—of the system.”

He explained that while the cameras merely capture and transmit images, it is the hard drive that records and stores the data for future reference.

“The camera is just a device to capture images. The actual storage and evidence lie in the hard drive,” he said.

Dr. Ayine confirmed that the hard drive was seized either by National Security personnel or investigators as part of the ongoing investigation.

He also dismissed claims circulating in the media that CCTV cameras were physically removed.

“Those spreading such misinformation are either misinformed or deliberately misrepresenting the facts. The suggestion that we took cameras is simply false and misleading,” he stated firmly.

The A-G reiterated the government’s commitment to lawful investigative procedures and urged the public to avoid sensationalising facts for political gain.
