I am working to get a balanced Black Stars squad – Chris Hughton
Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton says he is working on getting a balanced team.
The 64-year-old was awarded a 21-month deal in March earlier this year following Otto Addo’s resignation after Ghana’s early exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Speaking in an interview, the former Newcastle United boss revealed that eleven players switched nationalities to play for the West African country when during ex-coach Otto Addo’s time with the team.
He added that even though some players are still eligible to play for the Black Stars but he is currently working to get the right balance.
“The deeper I get into this role, the more players I get to know with Ghanaian heritage and it is throughout Europe,” he said.
“Most of my time was as a technical advisor and I worked with Otto Addo and we were able to bring in eleven new players to the squad. It is also about getting that balance because there are so many players that can become eligible.
“You can’t be adding new players in every squad so I think we have to be careful because we will need some stability,” he added.
Ahead of the 2022 World Cup likes of Inaki Williams, Mohammed Salisu, Stephan Ambrosius, and Patrick Pfeffer among other players switched to play for the country.
