I am still recovering from the slap – Assaulted Nkwatia Presby SHS student

The student who was allegedly assaulted by the Assistant Headmaster of the Nkwatia Presby SHS has disclosed that she is still recovering from the ordeal.

The head teacher reportedly slapped the second-year student after he claimed she went outside the school without permission.

However, it later emerged that she had obtained permission.

Photos and video showed the student with swelling and bruises on her face, sparking outrage from the public.

Narrating the incident, she said she reported to her housemistress after the assault, but she only gave her a painkiller.

“I went to my house mistress to report the incident after the assistant headmaster slapped me, but she only gave me paracetamol and asked me to report back after assembly the next day.

“So, the following day, I went back and told her I had a sleepless night, but she gave me paracetamol again,” she narrated sadly.

The persistent pains caused her to have many sleepless nights.

“There wasn’t any improvement in my condition, so I had to call my uncle, who asked me to report to the police. When I reported to the police, they assigned an officer to accompany me to the school, but the assistant headmaster was not around. Immediately the police left, he also came back.”

“My house mistress subsequently called me to say that the headmistress wanted to see me. When I got there, she asked me the ages of my parents and further asked me whether I could arrest my father if he scolded me, saying that what I did was not right,” the second-year student said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has relieved the assistant headmaster of his duties following the assault.

The GES, in a statement, said it was “disturbed” by the incident and that it “unequivocally condemns the actions of the Assistant Headmaster.”

The statement also said that the Eastern Regional Director of Education was liaising with the school authorities and the relevant law enforcement agency to investigate the matter.
