Hussein-Suale: Police launch investigation into murder of journo

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has since Wednesday night, launched a full-scale investigation into the gruesome murder of one of the revered investigative journalists in the country, Mr Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

The journalist who worked with the Tiger Eye Private Investigations, a private investigative company operated by ace journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was gunned down by unknown assailants at Madina on Wednesday.

Hussein-Suale was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck late Wednesday night while driving home by unidentified men riding a motorbike. He is the first journalist in the country to be killed this year.

According to the CID, it is following all leads, indicating that all persons suspected to be linked to the murder will be invited to assist in the investigations.

The Director-General of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, who disclosed this to Graphic Online, however, fell short of mentioning those to be invited for questioning.

When quizzed on the issue of the MP she said: “We will invite all we suspect to be linked to it”.

Meanwhile, soon after the murder, a video circulating social media reveals how the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin, Mr Kennedy Agyapong was seen inciting the public against the journalist, describing him as a criminal.

He is heard in the video to be calling on the public to slap the deceased and was prepared to pay for any money for that action.

In a related development, the Director of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr David Eklu, confirmed to the paper that the circulating video of the MP has been passed on to the CID to aid in the investigations.

“Per our duty here, we are to monitor and gather all such information on social media and use those that can assist us with investigations into such crimes for further investigations”, he said.

Public demand MP’s arrest

Meanwhile, some members of the public are calling on the Police to arrest Mr Agyapong for questioning.

The members of the public who made the calls monitored on various radio and television stations across the country insist that the Assin MP cannot escape blame for the murder of the journalist because of the remarks he made against him publicly.

According to them, under no circumstance should the police toy over the matter by using the position of the MP to sit back.
