An undisclosed amount of money has been destroyed after a fire gutted a 15-bedroom house at Meduma near Kumasi.
The inferno that started around 3 pm on Wednesday, February 7, also destroyed other valuable properties.
A report by the Mamponteng District police stated that the fire originated in one of the rooms and quickly spread to other rooms, causing extensive damage.
Most of the occupants of the house were outside when the fire started and the few present escaped unharmed.
It added that eyewitnesses alerted the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Two fire tenders from Mamponteng Municipal and Bremang fire stations rushed to the scene to control the fire.
However, it was too late as the fire had already destroyed the property and its contents.
Officers of GNFS, however, prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the room the fire originated from was “occupied by a woman and her mentally challenged mother”.
Meanwhile, the police and GNFS have launched an extensive investigation into the incident to ascertain the actual cause of the fire.
Similarly, an undisclosed amount of money was burned.
