How To Add Your Personal Touch To Your Wedding Decor
When I got married, personalizing our ceremony and reception was one of the top things on my mind. I wanted this event to celebrate our relationship, representing who we were and sharing a small portion of our lives with friends and family.
Fortunately, there were so many ways we could inject our personalities and passions into the wedding!
If you’re looking beyond the classic traditions of a wedding toward something more personal and unique, this is the perfect list for you. Check out some of my favorite ways to add a personal touch to your wedding and create an unforgettable event that everyone will be talking about for years to come.
1. Customized Welcome Drink
If you’re having a bar at your wedding, discussing a personalized drink to serve as guests walk in is a great way to share who you are. You can create a drink as a couple or choose two to represent each of you. Here are a few drink options that may fit in perfectly with your theme or personality:
- Elegant & Sophisticated: Aperol Spritz
- Whimsical & Magical: Lavender Blackberry Old Fashioned
- Simple & Rustic: Whiskey/Bourbon Sour
- Non-Alcoholic: Mini Soda Bottles
Don’t forget that you can also customize your drinkware with your name or wedding hashtag!
2. Mood Lighting
Many weddings take place in brightly lit ballrooms or outdoor spaces hung with string lights. Do something different when you choose to dim the lights with romantic mood lighting. Whether you’re allowed to use real candles or not, you can decorate your space with hundreds of electric candles in glass candle holders or hang them in the air like magical floating fixtures.
Candles completely transform your venue and transport your guests to a magical place that can bring nightclub levels of energy to your reception.
3. Patterned Dance Floor
Lots of venues have built a dance floor in the space to create a more comfortable area for dancing. You can skip the boring wood-like display when you customize your flooring to showcase a special design, your married name, or your initials. Some flooring customization options even allow you to use photos!
4. Unique Napkin Settings
One of the more subtle items on my list, unique napkins are a simple way to celebrate who you are as a couple. Keep it chic with “Mr. & Mrs.” napkins, or make your guests laugh with jokes, riddles, and other phrases that speak to you. You can even share fun facts about your relationship on your cocktail napkins, giving guests an inside look into your life together.
5. Personalized Bouquet
You might wonder how you can get more personal than a bouquet with handpicked flowers, but I promise you can! It’s about more than just flowers here. You can add many accents to your bouquet, making it yours. Consider a bouquet with a gemstone handle or a ribbon decorated with personalized embellishments, including charms, embroidery, a monogram, or messages from loved ones!
6. A New Kind of Wedding Book
Most people ask their guests to sign a wedding book, wishing them good luck after marriage. This is one area where you have so many customization options. Some people have a photo book where they paste a polaroid they take as they walk in. Others have little wooden hearts where you write your well wishes that they later place in a custom-shaped vase. You may also ask your guests to participate in a communal painting, where their addition is a signature! The options are nearly limitless in how you want your guests to join in commemorating the big day.
What’s Your Personal Touch
Which of these custom wedding decor ideas resonated with you? Did they inspire you to come up with some ideas of your own? You can try all of them! There’s no such thing as too much personalization for a wedding. Start exploring your options when you browse online shops that provide custom decor.
