The cholera outbreak in Effutu has tragically claimed the lives of three children, as reported by the Municipal Health Directorate.
Suspected cases, on the other hand, have soared to 400, and confirmed cases remain at 29.
Most alarming is the fact that many of the suspected cases involve children.
Paulette Brown, the Municipal Director of Health Services for Effutu, revealed this in an interview, underscoring the importance of addressing open defecation practices in local fishing communities to curb the cholera outbreak.
She also shed light on the support by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Alexander Afenyo Markin, to fight the disease.
“We all know that Effutu has been in the spotlight for a while because of the outbreak of cholera. But our MP has visited us and supported us with money to fight the disease. Now we have more than 400 suspected cases 29 positive cases and three deaths as of now. This is worrying because the deaths are uncalled for. These are children who are dying and they are defenseless.
“The sad part is that the adults come early leaving the children behind. For some time now, our shores have been infected with human excreta, and it is not good. Most of the infection is coming from the fishing communities and it is about time we deal with it
“Our MP gave us an amount of one hundred thousand cedis. This will help us in our outreach, plus support us in buying medical items to save lives, ” Paulette Brown, Municipal Health Director for Effutu, said in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Citi News.
