The house-help who brutally murdered his boss and sold her KIA Sportage vehicle has been convicted by the Asokwa Circuit Court.

The accused, Allister John, the prime suspect in the murder of a 35-year-old businesswoman in Sokoban, was found guilty of two counts of theft in a separate case.

According to the prosecution led by ASP Stephen Ofori, Allister was employed as a hotel receptionist in 2022 but unexpectedly stopped working after a month.

In July 2023, he returned to the complainant to seek employment for the second time, and the complainant hired him due to their previous working relationship.

On August 6, 2023, the complainant gave Allister her Infinix Note 8 mobile phone to assist with some settings.

However, Allister fled with the phone and withdrew GH¢167,660 from the complainant’s ABSA Bank account using the mobile app.

Fearing for her safety, the complainant reported the incident to the police, leading to Allister’s arrest at his hideout in Accra.

Based on these facts, he was arraigned before the court and subsequently convicted on his own plea.

The accused expressed remorse and requested leniency from the court in his sentencing.

However, the prosecution opposed his plea for leniency, advocating for a severe sentence as a deterrent to others.

The court is expected to deliver judgment on Friday, October 6, 2023.
