The house-help who brutally murdered his boss and sold her KIA Sportage vehicle has admitted to stealing GH¢167, 000, in another case.

The accused, Allister John, pleaded guilty to stealing over GH¢167,000 from a hotel owner in a different case, where he worked as a receptionist.

Allister and his accomplice, James Anokye, were arrested at their hideouts in Accra on September 14 following a police intelligence-led operation.

The duo are said to have murdered and dumped the body of 35-year-old businesswoman Princess Afua Ahenkan at Sokoban-Apaaso near Kumasi.

However, in this latest case, Allister admitted guilt with an explanation.

He claimed that he worked as a receptionist at the hotel and later fled with the hotel owner’s phone. Using the stolen mobile phone, he allegedly withdrew cash from the owner’s bank account using a mobile app.

According to the prosecution led by ASP Stephen Ofori, Allister was employed as a hotel receptionist in 2022 but unexpectedly stopped going to work after a month.

In July 2023, he returned to the complainant to seek employment for the second time, and the complainant hired him due to their previous working relationship.

On August 6, 2023, the complainant gave Allister her Infinix Note 8 mobile phone to assist with some settings.

However, Allister fled with the phone and withdrew GH¢167,660 from the complainant’s ABSA Bank account using the mobile app.

Fearing for her safety, the complainant reported the incident to the police, leading to Allister’s arrest at his hideout in Accra.

Allister is scheduled to appear before the Asokwa Circuit Court on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, to face charges related to this case.
