Hot race for European qualification as English premier league reaches climax
With 14 more games left for the English Premier League to conclude, the battle for European qualification has become tougher and unpredictable by the minutes.
The EPL champions for the 2019/2020 season, Liverpool F.C. as well as the runners up Manchester City F.C. have already secured a place in the qualification for the UEFA Champions League next year.
However, the teams ranking from the third to the seventh position are still in a fierce jostle to decide their fate in the qualification for the two European leagues.
Every year, clubs in Europe battle it out to climb to the first to the seventh position of their league tables to secure a place either play in the Europa League or the more respected UEFA Champions League.
Chelsea, which bagged a 3-1 win against Manchester United to qualify for the FA cup finals, still has one EPL league game to play which appear, to be the toughest set of games so far for any club.
After being walloped five goals to three at Anfield by the EPL’s runaway champions, Liverpool, Chelsea, has to wait till the last whistle to know their fate.
Notwithstanding the fact that the reds have nothing to lose, they went all out to prove to their fans they still have the capacity to tame a top side like Chelsea.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, a club that has risen significantly in the premier league after being promoted from the Championship stage in 2009/10 has performed amazingly well to the surprise of many in these past years.
Popularly known as Wolves, they haven’t only risen up in the ranks of the premier league, but they have also had an impressive record against the top teams in the EPL.
They recorded a win with a brace over the Eagles of Crystal Palace, and they will have a nail-biting encounter with Chelsea.
Between the two, there is everything to fight for as the two sides eye a spot in Europe.
Chelsea will be eager to secure a win to gain immunity against dropping to the fifth position, while the Wolves will be hungry and desperate to devour the Blues at the Stamford Bridge to be able to secure the 6th spot.
If the Wolves are able to get the 6th position, they will qualify to the Europa League, which is well deserved, considering the hard work and determination they have placed over the past two years.
Manchester United, the richest club in the EPL, and Leicester City both have 63 and 62 points, respectively.
Against Westham on Wednesday, united failed to glitter and pick the required three points. Leicester lost to Tottenham–results that have thrown the third and fourth spots for the European Champions League-wide.
Leicester and United will have a go at each other for a champions spot.
This is enough chance for the Red Devils, who have missed out on the Champions League qualification for the previous years, to nick a spot in the top four spots of the EPL league table.
Relegation zone
On the other end of the table, the relegation race is on.
Norwich F.C. had a very poor run this season, which has placed them in the last spot of the table with 21 points automatically making them a relegated club.
West Ham United secured an immunity against relegation after defeating Watford F.C. who are popular for stopping the unbeaten run of the Reds.
However, Watford will have a final battle to stay in the league as they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face the F.A. cup finalists, Arsenal.
Hope is still not lost for Aston Villa, who are just a goal difference above the relegation zone.
With their survival at stake, they might just get saved on the last day of judgement day. But that will depend on how bad they want the three points against a West Ham side that has already survived relegation tide.
