Hospital cleaner busted for conducting illegal abortions

The Akuse Police Command in the Eastern Region has arrested a cleaner at the Akuse Government Hospital for conducting illegal abortions for young girls.

60 years old, Sowah Warlk, a casual worker (Cleaner) of the Akuse Government Hospital in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality was arrested by Police Officers from the Akuse District Police Command on the 6th June, 2019. This follows several months of undercover police operations conducted by the Akuse Police.

The Akuse Police Officers went undercover following a tip off of the illegal activities of the cleaner.

Confirming the report to the Eveningmailgh.com, Supt. Winfred Asera-Nyarko, Akuse District Police Commander,  said that his men had to go undercover for months to be able to disclose the illegal medical practices of the cleaner at the Akuse Government Hospital.

Supt. Asera-Nyarko said, the cleaner was arrested 6th June while on the act of conducting an abortion.

He stated that, the man parades himself as a medical doctor to lure his victims.

He added that, when the cleaner was arrested, several medical equipments and supplies were discovered at his residence.

Mr. Sowah has since been presented before the law at the Odumase Court and has been reminded into prisons custody.

The Akuse District Police Commander indicated that the district Police Command has commenced  investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, Authorities at the Akuse Government Hospital have disassociated themselves from the illegal actions of their cleaner and have assured the police of their massive cooperation in the investigation.
