The only Community Health and Planning Services(CHPS) compound serving the people of Balagono in the Ga South District within the Obom Domeabra Constituency has been renovated by the Church of Pentecost in the area after being shut down for four months.

The assemblyman for the area, Hon. Ebenezer Ahortor noted that the Member of Parliament for the Constituency Sophia Karen Edem Ackuaku was consulted to assist with the renovation of the CHPS compound but there was no result.

The District Pastor at Hobor, Church of Pentecost Ps./Ovr. Ernest K. Boakye-Yiadom, in an interview with The Ghana Report, noted that as part of the church’s responsibility in ensuring that they make life better for members in various communities, the Area Head of Down Town Ofaakor, Apostle Dr. Benjamin Ali in collaboration with his District decided to renovate the only CHPS compound for the people of Balagono.

He explained that Pentecost Social Services(PENTSOS) targeted that particular health facility because the CHPS compound serves over one hundred members in the town and neighbouring communities.

“I heard that the CHPS compound at Balagono has been shut down because it’s in a very bad condition. I was told that’s the only health facility in the town so I approached my Area Head to discuss the issue with him. The Church of Pentecost often assists with some social responsibilities so through PENTSOS, my leader and some officers in the Area and District especially the Area Deacon gathered some funds to renovate the CHPS compound for the people of Balagono”, he noted.

Ps/Ovr. Boakye-Yiadom moreover disclosed that the condition of the health facility required the Church to change every aspect of the facility which at the end of the project amounted to GH₵35,000.

The Assemblyman on behalf of the health workers showed appreciation to the Church of Pentecost leadership for supporting the Assembly and the Obom-Domeabra Constituency as a whole in renovating the CHPS compound for the people of Balagono.

The Assemblyman also bemoaned the lack of inadequate health workers in the town.

He noted that most health workers posted within his jurisdiction refuse to stay due to lack of accommodation.

He also appealed to the government to meet the needs of health professionals posted to remote areas to motivate them to deliver good services as required of them.
