Ho flood victims get support from Chinese Communist Party

The Chinese Communist Party (CPC), through its government and Embassy in Ghana, has presented relief items worth over US$50,000 to victims of recent floods and coastal tidal waves in Ho.

The donation, including consumables and medical supplies, was presented to the victims affected by the recent flood in Bankoe, located in the Volta Region.

Residents were dumbfounded on Saturday, July 8, 2023, when heavy rains displaced most of them as their apartments and shops were destroyed.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. LU Kun, on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party, presented the items to the victims.

He commended the efforts of local authorities, especially the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in providing urgent support for the victims when the incident occurred.

A Chinese medical team in Ghana also pledged to offer free health screenings to the affected communities.

Mr Stephen Ayensu Ntim, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), lauded the gesture from the CPC and emphasized the commitment of the NPP to stand with the victims and work towards long-term solutions to mitigate future disasters.

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the region for the support extended by the CPC and the people of China. He pledged to ensure the proper distribution of the relief items and appealed for further assistance.

Madam Ivy Amewugah, Regional Head of NADMO, highlighted the extent of the disaster’s impact, stating that around 5,000 individuals had been affected by the floods and tidal waves.
