Tragedy struck on Accra’s Kanda Highway on Tuesday, October 8, when a pedestrian was fatally hit by a Toyota V8 vehicle at about 8:30 pm.
Eyewitness Shaibu Danjuma reported that the driver initially stopped but quickly sped off.
The pedestrian, who is yet to be identified, died on the spot.
Police arrived shortly after the accident, and the victim’s body was transported to an undisclosed mortuary for further investigation and identification.
Authorities are working to track down the hit-and-run driver.
Residents expressed concern about the frequent accidents along that stretch of the highway, attributing the high number of incidents to poor visibility due to the lack of streetlights.
Residents and road users have repeatedly called for improved lighting and road safety measures to prevent such occurrences, with the latest incident reigniting discussions on the need for urgent action.
