Ghanaian musician Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo, known in showbiz as Epixode, says he is not expecting to be named the Highlife Artiste of the Year at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) because being crowned with such a title goes beyond a having hit song.
Epixode’s “Atia”, a single released in 2022, is one of the hit songs in Ghana which qualifies him for the Best Highlife Artiste of the Year, but Epixode seems not to be confident his song could grab the recognition.
According to him, he will be pleased to get the Best Collaboration and the Highlife Song of the Year.
Speaking on his ‘Atia’ song in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, which was monitored by The Ghana Report, Epixode said, “The song did amazing last year, and the target was not initially to receive an award. However, it will be an honour to be awarded to recognise all of the artistes who contributed to the various versions”.
“I am not eyeing the Highlife Artiste of the Year award because it takes more than just a song to be crowned the Artiste of the Year, but I will be pleased to get the Best Collaboration and the Highlife Song of the Year,” he added.
Epixode also revealed that he has some songs in the offing but is not in a rush to release those tracks.
“I am new to highlife, so I must produce songs that match the standards. I am not in a rush to keep releasing back-to-back songs, but I am concerned about the longevity and originality of my music,” he said.
Aside from ‘Atia’, Epixode has released songs like ‘Wahala Dey’, ‘Odeshi’, ‘Faya’, ‘Jehovah’, ‘Ogbooni’, ‘Yea Man’, ‘Too Much’ and others.
