High Court orders EC to finalise Tema Central results

The Tema High Court has directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to collate results from two outstanding polling stations in the Tema Central constituency following a legal challenge by Charles Forson, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate in the December 7 elections.

The judge, Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, granted a mandamus application filed by Mr. Forson, ruling that the EC must complete the collation process.

The court also instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide adequate security to ensure a smooth and secure collation exercise.

The ruling comes after the court found that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Ebi Bright, was declared the winner of the parliamentary election without the proper procedure being followed.

According to the judgement, the declaration was made by an individual who was not the EC’s returning officer.

Furthermore, the declaration was made despite results from two polling stations remaining uncollated.

The court’s decision underscores the importance of adhering to electoral processes to ensure transparency and fairness.

The collation of the outstanding results will determine the outcome of the parliamentary election in the Tema Central constituency.

This development has heightened anticipation among voters and stakeholders as they await the conclusion of the collation process.
