Several areas of the country’s capital, Accra, are in total darkness due to a heavy downpour on Wednesday, 6 April 2022.
The rains, which lasted nearly three hours, left in its trail flooded streets as some residents struggle to salvage some of their wares left in the way of the ravaging waters.
The most affected areas are Ashongman, Agbogba, Haatso-Atomic, East Legon, Airport and some parts of Shaishie.
Several roads were submerged, houses flooded, and vehicles were stuck in some places.
A statement released by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) shortly after the rains explained that the major rainstorm with strong winds which hit Greater Accra and other parts of the country on Wednesday “caused major outages in our distribution system.”
The company used the opportunity to caution all and sundry to be extremely careful not to touch or step on loose or fallen electrical conductors since they could be live.
It urged anyone who had encountered loose or fallen conductors and customers experiencing outages to call the contact centre on 0302611611.
Alternatively, complaints could be forwarded via their official social media handles on @ECGOfficial (Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram) for prompt intervention.
ECG further assured customers that their engineers working assiduously to rectify the faults and restore the power supply.
