Ghana Premier League heavyweights Accra Hearts of Oak are on the verge of signing former Ghana international midfielder Mubarak Wakaso, according to reports.

The 34-year-old is poised to join the Phobians on a short-term deal as they look to bolster their squad for the second half of the ongoing season.

Wakaso, known for his tenacious style of play and excellent passing range, has been without a club since parting ways with Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC in January 2024.

However, the seasoned midfielder briefly returned to Shenzhen in mid-2023 following a loan spell at Belgian outfit KAS Eupen, where he featured in 10 matches across all competitions.

With vast experience playing for top European clubs, including Villarreal, Espanyol, Celtic FC, and Deportivo Alaves, Wakaso’s addition is expected to inject much-needed quality and leadership into the Hearts team.

His wealth of international experience, having represented Ghana at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, further highlights the potential value he could bring to the team.

The move, if finalized, could mark a significant boost for Hearts as they aim to compete for the league title and secure a strong finish this season.

Wakaso has played 70 times for the Black Stars, scoring 13 goals across the period after making his debut on October 13, 2012.
