Hearts of Oak apologise to fans after huge defeat to WAC
Ghanaian Champions Accra Hearts of Oak have apologised to their teeming supporters following the club’s abysmal performance in Morocco against Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League group stage qualifiers.
The Phobians, who had recorded a 1-0 win in the first leg, suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat against the Moroccan side in the return leg of the competition played at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday to put the tie 6-2 on aggregate.
By virtue of the results, the Rainbow Club will now drop to the CAF Confederation Cup, where they will compete for a place in the group stage of the second-tier tournament while Wydad progress to the group stages of the Champions League.
A statement signed by the club’s Communications said lessons were learnt from the defeat by their ‘massively inexperienced’ team and insisted they will build on the experience.
Below is the statement from the club
At the local level, the club will focus their attention on the defence of their Ghana Premier League title, when they face Legon Cities in the first game of the 2021/22 season which begins October 29.
