Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensa-Bonsu has jabbed NDC MP Ras Mubarak who has asked that the President is quarantined for coronavirus on his return to Ghana.

“I want to believe it was said in jest because if anybody needs to be quarantined, I believe we have to start with the honorable [Ras Mubarak]. Mr Speaker, I have heard him occasionally coughing and I’m not sure where he’s coming from,” he said jokingly.

He added, “he may have to be interrogated.”

The Kumbungu MP said, “The President must be quarantined for 14 days when he returns from his working visit to Europe. This would ensure he does not bring the deadly COVID-19 from his trip.”

“Mr. Speaker, his excellency the President has visited Norway which has recorded a case of Coronavirus. It will be very helpful to get information as to when his excellency will be quarantined when he arrives in the country,” he said this in Parliament on Friday.

He went on to add, “could my honorable friends confirm whether upon arrival in the country from his European tour, his excellency the President will be quarantined?”

Ras Mubarak has also called for measures to be put in place to run the necessary checks on MPs, government officials who are currently on assignment to countries with reported cases.

He also requested that Health Minister be invited to parliament to give an indication of the country’s preparedness.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s health ministry on Friday had confirmed a coronavirus case in Lagos state.
