The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has urged the public to use pollution masks and desist from open burning of waste and other materials as the season for harmattan intensifies.

Additionally, individuals are being advised to sprinkle water on dusty surfaces before sweeping to reduce dust emissions, while vehicle users are encouraged to reduce speeding on untarred roads to reduce dust emissions.

In a statement issued on December 20, the EPA stated that dust levels have increased.

“The Environmental Protection Agency wishes to inform the general public that due to the onset of the harmattan season, as indicated by the Ghana Meteorological Agency’s 2023/22024 Harmattan Advisory Update-2, we have observed an increase in particulate levels (dust levels) from our monitoring sites since December 13, 2023,” excerpts of the statement noted.

EPAres that monitoring exercises will continue and promptly update the public on any new developments.
