The deposed Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, has cast his ballot in the ongoing by-election in Assin North.

He arrived at the voting grounds at Assin Bereku to a rousing welcome by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He was accompanied by some key members of the NDC, including National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and others.

He was also flanked by security personnel from the NDC and the Ghana Police Service.

A total of 41,000 voters are expected to vote in 99 polling stations within the constituency.

The legal challenges surrounding the eligibility of the deposed Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson, necessitated the by-election.

Following allegations of false declaration of office and perjury, a court ruling deemed Mr Quayson’s election invalid, leading to the vacant seat and the subsequent need for a by-election.

Various political parties have been actively campaigning to secure the seat for their respective candidates.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has the 40-year-old electrical engineer Charles Opoku as their candidate, while the opposition National Democratic Congress (DC), has maintained James Quayson as their candidate.

Aside from these two big stalwarts, the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) has a candidate in the person of Bernice Enyonam Sefenu, offering voters a diverse range of choices.
