GWCL to spill excess water from Weija Dam

The Ghana Water Company Limited has announced its intention to spill excess water from the Weija Dam.

This decision comes as the water level at the dam continues to rise due to rain.

In a letter, GWCL explained that failing to release water from the dam could pose a significant risk to lives and properties downstream.

Although the exact date for the spilling process was not specified, the water company assured that it would begin at a low rate to minimise the impact downstream.

“The rate of spillage will be determined by the incoming flow of water into the dam, and the process will continue as long as the water levels remain high,” GWCL said.

GWCL expressed regret for any inconvenience that may arise from the spillage and stressed the need to take precautionary measures during this period.

The communities likely to be affected are Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach, Adakope, and surrounding communities.
