GWCL disconnects Nigel Gaisie’s Church over illegal connection

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has disconnected the Prophetic Hill Chapel, headed by Prophet Nigel Gaisie, over unpaid water bills amounting to GH¢6,913 and what the company describes as an illegal reconnection.

The disconnection was carried out on Wednesday, October 9, 2025, by officials from GWCL’s Accra East Regional Office with support from the police.

According to the company, the church failed to pay its outstanding debt and was caught attempting to restore its water supply illegally.

Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, the Communications Manager for the Accra East Region, explained the situation in an interview.

“The meter, which we use to track water usage, had been removed after we disconnected it,” he said. “We found that water was somehow flowing back into the property. That is illegal. We had no choice but to disconnect them again.”

He added that Prophet Nigel Gaisie has been invited to report to their office to settle the bill and resolve the issue.

“He owes GH¢6,913. When he comes, we will tell him what steps need to be taken. For too long, people have treated the Ghana Water Company as if there were no consequences. That time is over.”

Reporters who attempted to cover the disconnection were stopped by members of the prophet’s team. Prophet Gaisie himself declined to comment.

The GWCL has stepped up its efforts in recent months to tackle illegal connections and unpaid bills, which officials say cost the utility millions of cedis every year.

The church has yet to release a public statement regarding the disconnection.
