Unknown gunmen have killed about five persons at Binduri in the Upper East region.
According to reports, the assailants stormed a market in Binduri on Monday, January 22, 2024, and started shooting sporadically.
Confirming the news, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bawku, said the victims, predominantly women, were going about their daily chores when the gunmen attacked.
He added that the number of casualties may rise as they continue to count.
Many of the students who were injured due to the attack were rushed to the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.
The students who had just vacated were heading towards Bolgatanga when they were ambushed by the two gunmen.
They fired several rounds at the bus close to the police barrier at Binduri.
There were no deaths in the incident.
The MCE of Bawku, Amadu Hamza, once again confirmed the incident and said the rest of the students who escaped unhurt were escorted by the police to Bolgatanga.
When asked what might have triggered the attack, he responded that gunshots may be heard in Bawku without a cause.
