Gunmen kill 3 passengers, set bus ablaze at Wulugu

Some unknown assailants killed three travellers and set a bus on fire following an ambush at Wulugu in the North East Region.

The deceased were part of passengers travelling from Kumasi to Garu when their bus developed a fault near Wulugu and left them stranded.

According to sources, the driver then left the bus and passengers in search of spare parts at Walewale.

After he left, the armed men attacked them, torched the bus, and killed three of the passengers.

The rest of the passengers, however, were able to flee to nearby homes in Wulugu to take refuge.

Police officers later arrived to discover two bodies of young men believed to be in their 20s close to the bus.

The third body, also in his 20s, was found in a bush about 200 metres away from the roadside.

The police also retrieved four empty shells suspected to be from AK-47 rifles.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been transported to the Bolgatanga Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, pending investigations and identification by their families.

Although the motive behind the attack remains unclear, reports suggest it may be linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict.
