A pressure group calling itself, Ashaiman Lives Matter, has demanded compensation for the brutalities meted out to residents of Ashaiman following the death of a young soldier.

The group also wants President Nana Akufo-Addo to immediately set up a committee to probe circumstances that led to the military storming Ashaiman township.

Another key issue for them is the release of the over 150 residents who were arrested following the swoop by soldiers on Tuesday, March 7.

The group has the former MP Alfred Agbesi, the current MP Ernest Norgbey, Lawyer Emmanuel Kumadey, and others as convenors of Ashaiman Lives Matter.

They condemned the invasion of Ashaiman by some soldiers who brutalized, subjected residents to all forms of inhumane treatment, and arrested over 150 people.

“We are currently in a constant state of fear for our dear lives because the soldiers told the residents that it is a Month’s Operation and they have instructions from above to put the fear of God in them to avenge the murder of the fallen soldier.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of the press we the people of Ashaiman condemn the beastly acts of the Ghana Armed Forces and we also call on the President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces to do the same and render an unqualified apology to the good people of Ashaiman for the criminal acts of his troops,” the group stated.
