Gridlock takes over Accra as police block roads leading to EC office

 

Roadblocks mounted by the Ghana Police Service in Accra to protect the premises of the Electoral Commission has resulted in traffic congestion in the city.

Motorists heading to and from the city centre using the Ridge and Kanda highways endured hours of frustration.

Crawling like tortoises, the motorists found alternative routes in Asylum Down, creating a heavy gridlock in the usually free and quiet streets of the commercial and residential enclave.

While some drivers switch off their roaring engines to preserve fuel, some impatient passengers in commercial vehicles file out, convinced that it is faster to walk.
