GRIDCo, ECG announce 3-week ‘dumsor’

Source The Ghana Report

The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have informed the public of potential power supply interruptions (dumsor) due to a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria.

This issue, which began on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, has already caused power supply disruptions in various parts of the country.

According to the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo), the reduction in gas supply is due to maintenance works being conducted by a gas supplier in Nigeria, projected to last three weeks.

The joint statement further said that this maintenance has resulted in a decrease in overall power generation capacity in Ghana, potentially necessitating load management during this period.

GRIDCo and ECG assured the public that they are working closely with other stakeholders in the power value chain to optimise available resources and minimise the impact on consumers.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the statement concluded.
