Greatest compliment is blending with the character – Edward Agyekum Kufuor
Veteran Ghanaian actor, Edward Agyekum Kufuor has shared his experience about how he played a character so well that a friend was carried away.
Speaking on The Afternoon Show on TV3, the actor recalled his role as husband of Nana Ama McBrown in the movie, ‘Adam’s Apple’ in which he had recurring affair with his ex-girlfriend Joselyn Dumas.
According to him, he played the character so well that his female friend who met him later on at a gym smacked him for cheating on his wife in the movie as she was carried away by his role in the movie.
The son of former President John Agyekum Kufuor stated that as an actor, the best compliment he received was that incident where his friend forgot it was all about a movie and she could not distinguish from reality.
“For me, I think is the best compliment that your viewers can pay you when you play the role so well that they cannot distinguish between you and the character. For an actor, when you have done well, the viewers need to come away with it.
“It happened to me at Aviation. I was at the gym with my wife and she was on the treadmill next to me. I had just played in Adam’s Apple. A friend of us just walks to me, she had a newspaper and she walked at me and smacked me and I almost fell off because I wasn’t expecting it,” he shared on September 4.
He continued: “I was like what is going on? So, she walks up to me and says ‘You have a beautiful wife and had an extra marital affair’ and I was like what is she talking about, my wife was standing right beside me.”
He added: “And she said ‘the Adam’s Apple movie, as for men that’s how you are’ and I was thinking has she absolutely lost it? It’s a movie. Nana Ama McBrown was my wife in Adam’s Apple and I was having a recurrent affair with Joselyn, my ex in the movie.”
“Later on, I thought I must have left an impression that she prefers walking up to me that she really had to tell me and smacked me. It is a compliment,” he said.
